English version of my GIMP tutorial. Translated from German language. Original:

Moin, I thought it's time again for a GIMP tutorial or rather the time for a contribution to deliver an idea how you can colorize your picture. Let's see this as an experiment and have a look at the results of it. My main focus is to make everything appear in sepia.

Also in this tutorial, doing it yourself and experimenting works wonders. There's no right or wrong, it just has to please. I'm still working with version 2.8, version 2.9 can be downloaded, but it's still under development.
Don't forget: Make a copy of your picture. If everything goes wrong and Edit -> Undo doesn't help anymore. Then at least you can use the copy.

The first possibility
The first option is also the simplest.
- Filter -> Decor -> Old Photo

Leave out the Defocus option if you only want to colorize the image with sepia. It is possible to add a border which, in my opinion, is not beautiful at all.
Option Two:
In order to have a little bit more control over the colors, I present two further methods. Let's go with it:
- Colours -> Colourise

The result:

Okay, the result might be a little too powerful.
Because of that:

It works a little bit more defused from the paint. The dark corners are slightly lighter. But as I said, in the end it must please YOU. It's OK with me. Playing with the values. The colour doesn't have to be sepia or similar to sepia. More blue, purple or red if you like. Simply move the slider of the values back and forth.
Whatever goes: Colours -> Colourify
Experience shows that the picture then becomes very dark. Possibly via brightness and contrast or the b/w values try to get something out again.
And in the end
Now we need the black and white version of our picture.
- 1.1: Either with: Colours -> Desaturate. Use the settings you like best.
Or
- 1.2: First make sure that the foreground and background colors are black and white:

2: Then: Then RIGHT CLICK on our picture. Colours -> Map -> Gradient Map
3: Back to the Foreground color and use a28a65

- 4: Create new layer - transparent

- 5: Simply drag the foreground color to the new layer (hold left mouse button) and select Colour as Mode for the layer.

This results in interesting possibilities not only with black or white or sepia. And the result:
A little more atmosphere can be created by adding noise:
1: Create a new layer again. The background should be white now.
2: Filters -> Noise -> HSV Noise
My settings:

- 3: Then select the multiplication mode for the layer
So you see, GIMP can do a lot of things. To facilitate the choice of colours or to get the right shade, I recommend these two pages:

And

But with Google you can find much more. Just search for e. g. HTML colors, HTML color sepia.
In principle, such an image can be colored and adapted to your wishes. Can be done in this way, but does not have to. There are countless other tutorials on the internet. Countless methods. That's why I say it again: play around. Try it out. Good is what you like.
If you see this contribution here at steemit as an idea, an inspiration and the rest of the way you have to find out on your own. See you then.
Let me know if it's understandable. Too few or too many pictures? Too much exuberance? Something confusing you? Your opinion matters to me.
Anzutreffen bin ich auf dem D-A-CH Discord Server.
Thank you for every UpVote, resteem and comment.
