Freeing up Time to Write - How I learned to stop worrying and (almost) write on a daily basis - Part 14

FADE IN TO

Little Intro

If you've been following me for a while, you might have noticed that I didn't post yesterday. It was my own choice and that's why I don't really mind. I decided to add a word to the title of my post though: 'almost'.

Experimenting with consistency

This started out as an experiment in consistency, a week or two ago, and I feel it has been quite a success so far.

I might not be blogging every single day, but I'm approaching that. And that in itself feels like a success. Especially after months of inconsistency in my creative output.

Here's the little and bigger things I celebrate so far:

  • Financially: I made more money blogging in the last two weeks, than I think I've made since I joined Steemit, half a year ago or so.
  • Response: I am receiving more and more response to my posts, which makes me feel like I'm not just doing it for myself. I might actually have some (hopefully) positive influence on other people. The latter is definitely one of my long term aims.
  • I found my groove/ voice: I feel that mixing up journaling with film talk (although I sometimes slack off on the latter) is my style. The same goes for writing in a brainstorm-esque way. Letting the words flow out of my fingers and ignoring the perfectionist inside of me.
  • I can write whenever I feel like it. There's no more lack of inspiration and it doesn't really matter what time it is.
  • I'm happy to have found a community of like minded people on here and enjoy spending time with them when I'm not interacting offline. There's also so much I can learn from others. So much potential for growth in so many ways.

JUMP CUT TO

OFFLINE VS ONLINE

I left my twin sister's place 3 days ago, to visit friends in Amsterdam.

From then, until today, I was actually pretty busy. I spend most of my time being social outside of Steemit; playing the role of uncle to my nephews (from my other (non twin)sister, visiting my parents, then visiting a friend and being 'uncle Vinny' - my maffia nickname that I invented for myself - to his one and a half year old kid.

I ended up sleeping in three different houses/ cities in the last 3 days and now I'm back at my twin sister's place.

I Could Have Made Time to Write Yesterday

What I'm trying to say, is that I could have freed up time to write yesterday. The thing is, I just felt like focusing on interacting offline for a day, being in the now (or should I say: ''in the then''). It also helped that I didn't bring my laptop with me, when I left on Friday, as I only planned to go to Amsterdam for a night. That one night changed in 3 days of social interaction.

We also had snow the last couple of days, something that is kind of special here. So that was quite a distraction. These winters one day of snow is special - global warming and all.

I Now 'Choose' Not to Write

The lesson I learnt the last couple of days, is that 'not writing or blogging' has now become a conscious decision, a choice. In the past, I didn't write, create et cetera, because I didn't feel like it, had no inspiration and so on. All these excuses. Now I sometimes choose not to write.

I learned though, to free up time for writing. It is too important for me not to do it. And whenever I do decide to write, there's never lack of inspiration. Its crazy how things can change in a week/ a couple of weeks time.

Some film talk

Not to disappoint the people who read my posts for the (almost) daily film talk, here's some snowy movies that you might want to check out:

Alive
Everest
Trollhunter
Alone in the Wilderness

Let's end this post with a couple of wintery pictures. We had an exceptional amount of snow today. The last time this happened was probably 10 years ago. At the end of the afternoon, my twin sister and I picked up her kids from the day care and bought a little wooden sled along the way. It took us 2.5 hours to make the trip (back and forth) but it was worth the adventure.

Unfortunately, the snow is predicted to shapeshift into rain tomorrow. But it was a lot of fun fun while it lasted.
