Have you ever eaten a scorpion?

Yes, this was another bucket's list goal I could achieve in Thailand, eating an insect.
If you never tried I will give you a small spoiler, it doesn't taste. It is really crunchy, but nothing that you can remind apart of the strange feeling while actually doing it!

Don't worry Thailand food is not only insects but much more and much better.
I want to write this post to show you how you can "survive" having a very cheap and tasty set of Street Food options.
Yes, because if you want to travel to Asia, and especially to Thailand you have to try the street food. Ok, maybe not the insects, but let's have a look to what I really enjoyed during my trips.

Pad Thai

The big classic, Pad Thai, so tasty and cheap. It is made with soaked dried rice noodles, which are stir-fried with eggs and chopped firm tofu.
You can find it in varieties of chicken, pork, fish or vegetarian. Already only with this one, you can cover enough meals.
If prepared in the street it costs around 50 Bhat, a bit more than one Euro, it has to be tried.

Fruit, fruit, fruit

It's unbelievable how cheap fruit can be in Thailand. Fresh clean and cut pineapples for 1 Euro, fruit shake for 1.50, coconuts, bananas, dragon fruits, papaya and much more. With the warm and humidity you find there, I was eating fruit all day.

Fish

Of course.
The country most common food, you can eat fresh fish for ridicolous prices. The street food it's full, it this picture some big rotating fishes on the sidewalk.

And the insects?

If you want to try the insects don't do it in Kao San Road, they are expensive and probably not so healty there.
But if you're traveling around Thailand, you'll maybe find a more affordable insect street food stand like this, and who knows, maybe you'll be brave enough to try...
