On my previous post, I shared a few photos of The Fish Market of Vila do Conde, also known as Mercado das Caxinas (Caxinas Market).
On the outside, a few Graffiti have been painted a few years ago, to make the building a bit more appealing.
Bem Vindo às Caxinas (Welcome to Caxinas)
This Graffiti serves as a welcoming sign to the neighbourhood of Caxinas, a block of houses near the beach, locally know for its fishing roots and history.
The word "Rua" painted in the diving helmet refers to Colectivo Rua

Mar, Memória, Identidade (Sea, Memory, Identity)
This mural depicts a scene at the sea, with the fishing boat above water and hiding under water, are the monsters that were both a blessing and a curse for the fishermen. A blessing because they provided the men with food to put on their tables; and a curse because sometimes the sea won, and the men ended up as becoming dinner for all the sea creatures.
That's how a local old saying came to be: "O que o mar tira, o mar dá."
This means: "What the sea takes, the sea gives."
Collaborative work from 3 artists of Colectivo Rua
Artists:
- Tiago Braga
Artistic Name: Fedor
Nationality: Porto - Portugal - Mário Fonseca
Artistic Name: Oker
Nationality: Maia - Portugal - Nuno Palhas
Artistic Name: Third
Nationality: Vila Nova de Gaia - Portugal
All 5 artists belong to a group (or crew) called Colectivo Rua, which can be translated as "Street Collective." This crew was formed in 2006 and the best Street Artists from the area of Porto make part of it. They've participated in several events and many times, they can be seen working together to achieve excellent results - like the two pieces above.
