Recently, @dwinblood posted an article about critical thinking and logical fallacies that got me thinking about the educational method known as The Trivium.

The Trivium

Here is a diagram which illustrates the Trivium*:
From this diagram we can see the essence of the Trivium: from Absolute Truth emanates Consciousness, and when consciousness reaches a certain distance from Truth, It creates a 3 part system for rediscovering Truth, which is Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric.
The diagram also explains that each of these philosophies require each other but are not derived one from the other, but rather stem from Truth itself, as an emanation of consciousness.
Grammar
This in part is simply the ability to call things by their right names.
On a deeper level grammar is you ability to input data accurately. In this sense it is less of a linguistic property and more of an empirical one.
In metaphysical level it has to do with how in tuned your empirical sense are to the actual state of reality, Truth.
Logic
Logic can simply mean the process by which one distinguishes right thinking from wrong thinking, or the tools one uses to test the empirical senses.
On a deeper level logic is the processing of grammar. It can be thought of like a computer processor figuring out what to do with data which has been inputted.
Metaphysically, logic is path to Truth beyond the empirical.
Rhetoric
In practice rhetoric means the tools used to convince others of your point of view. It has to do with persuasion and influence.
On a deeper level it is about the output mechanism for processed data (Logic) accurately.
The presentation which leads to the re-connection of the abstract consciousness with Truth, metaphysically, is operating under the principal of Rhetoric.
The Power of the Trivium
In ancient times, the knowledge of the Trivium system was thought to be the thing itself which separated slaves from freemen, peasants from Kings.
An individual that understands the Trivium and is able to effectively apply it in reality will find themselves in positions of power and influence in society. It is literally a gateway to freedom and liberation, because who has mastered the principals of the Trivium has access to the source of reality, Truth.

Personally, this is one of the most important topics for humanity to study, and nobody even knows about it.
This is the sort of thing that makes me think that those in power deceive or prevent the general public from understanding the Truths inherent in the Trivium to keep us under their power, because once we understand Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric, we understand Truth and cannot be enslaved.
