Size does matter for these ladies...
A friend sent me 3 of these yesterday and i'm having one for lunch.
It took sometime for me to peel it.
Smells good as I peeled it with my knife.
Normally pinoys would eat mangoes with fishsauce(bagoong ng alamang) but with this variety of mango, you wouldn't need one. Its sweet. It had thick flesh and thin seeds. It weighs more than a kilo on the average.
I thought of saving its seed to propagate it but realize it would take me around 8 to 15years before it will bear fruit so i went over the internet to search what kind of mango it was and if there were grafted seedlings on the market.
Later on i found out that it was exotic and locally grafted called the
Giant Sweet Catimon MangoAnd there were variety of seedling available in the market. They had single and double stem graft seedlings that are sold around 70 dollars a piece.
Quite expensive for a tree if your a Filipino but its pricy for a reason. Its flowers are rain resistant and its fruiting is continuous from January to September of the year. Harvesting it won't be a problem too because dwarfted variety will only grow up to 6ft tall and you can even plant it on a plant box.
Its also resistant to pests like mango hoppers, capsid bug and Cecid fly. And unlike conventional mangoes, the tree does not need induced spraying with Potasium Nitrate. It bears fruit on its own.
Quite a nice tree to have on your backyard. What you guys think of it?
