Fried and Sugared

On our streets we have our local bakeries. Not like the fancy ones at the mall which sells baguette , sour dough or croissant which are a bit expensive here. The local ones we have are for the masses and are very affordable for everyone. Let me just share with you today life as it happens in a bakeshop just near by.

Here are just some of our local bread which can be found almost anywhere. We have the deep fried Cheese Roll and the local Donut or Doughnut. I got a bit confused how to have it spelled there. Anyway you know what I mean. A little bit of warning here by the way for those who do not like oily bread and a lot of sugar. I did my little share of baking back in the days in our small bakery. It was hard work like the hardest that I have done. Waking up at 3 am just to make the dough and let it rise. Get the oven burning and finish baking around 6 am as the customers are getting ready for breakfast. I kinda miss baking sometimes.

This is one of the popular bakeries here who sells different sorts of bread and cakes. Around 3 in the afternoon they start cooking up their cheese bread and doughnuts for the customers who will be having their afternoon snack. Here in our country it is very common for folks to have an afternoon snack and local bread is quite popular.

This snack called Cheese bread is fried instead of baked but there is also a baked variant. A thin piece of cheese is sliced and placed inside the bread. Then it is rolled and deep fried. Once it floats it's ready and after that, excess oil is removed and cooled down a bit. The same process is also done with the doughnuts it was a shame they cooked it a little bit early and didn't catch it.

It is then bathed in sugar, lots of it. Each roll of cheese bread is ensured that every inch of it is covered in sugar.

People line up to get their favorite afternoon snack and these gets sold out really quick. The best combination for this treat is an ice cold bottle of your favorite soda.

You know how cheap they are? You get your doughnuts for around 3- 5 pesos or around $.05 -$.10 per piece. Two pieces of that doughnut and maybe around 5 pieces of the cheese rolls is enough for me.

Here we go our snacks handed over to us and there should be enough for everyone.

At home can't help to take a couple of shots before we have our snack. But soon not wasting another moment it was all gone.

Hope you enjoyed one of the simple joys of life that we experience from day to day. Always keeping my eye open for anything that maybe common to us but others may find interesting.
