Nachdem ich hier auf steemit immer so viel von Phuket, Pattaya und Krabi gelesen und Bilder gesehen habe, möchte ich Hat Yai vorstellen. Hat Yai liegt im Süden von Thailand. Von mir aus, ich lebe in Pulau Pinang, sind es in etwa 4-5 Stunden mit dem Auto bis zur Grenze von Thailand. Von der südlichen Grenze aus ist es dann nicht mehr weit bis Hat Yai (~55km).
After reading so much about Phuket, Pattaya and Krabi and seeing pictures here on steemit, I would like to introduce Hat Yai. Hat Yai is located in the south of Thailand. From Pulau Pinang, where im living, it takes about 4-5 hours by car to reach the border of Thailand. It is then not far from the southern border to Hat Yai (~55km).

Zwischen Hat Yai und Penang pendeln kleine Busse, mit vielleicht Platz für 18 Menschen, hin und her. Das macht Anreise und Abreise sehr flexibel, kostengünstig und einfach. Mein erstens Land in Asien, welches ich kennen gelernt habe war Malaysia. Und ich dachte mir natürlich erst mal, wie anders kann Thailand schon sein? Ganz schön anders. Während ich Malaysia schon chaotisch fand, vom Verkehr und Infrastruktur her, so war Thailand noch mal eine ganz andere Nummer. Es fing schon an der Grenze an. Es gibt viele Bewohner in Süd-Thailand die ihre Wurzeln in Malaysia haben. Daher ist am Grenzübergang viel los. Viele Familien wollen sich gegenseitig besuchen und für Malaysier ist Thailand ein Urlaubsland, welches nicht so teuer wie Singapur ist und daher gerne besucht wird. Da im Süden von Thailand viele Bahasa Malayu, die Landessprache von Malaysia sprechen, braucht sich ein Malaysier nicht all zu fremd fühlen. Malaysiern wird der Grenzübergang erleichtert. Meines Wissens wird für den Grenzübergang nur nach dem malaysischen Ausweis gefragt und es wird kein Reiseausweis benötigt.
Was mir dann noch aufgefallen ist, es waren wenige Touristen aus Europa, Australien oder den USA zu sehen. Und die wenigen, die ich, an der Grenze getroffen habe, waren auf einem Visa Run. Ein paar Tage Thailand und zurück nach Malaysia. Hinter der Grenze von Thailand war der Fahrstil des Busfahrers gleich ein ganzes Stück aggressiver. Da bin ich etwas ins Schwitzen gekommen. Schilder mit der Höchstgeschwindigkeit werden komplett ignoriert.
Between Hat Yai and Penang you can travel with small buses, with maybe room for 18 people. This makes arrival and departure very flexible, inexpensive and easy. My first country in Asia which I got to know was Malaysia. And I first thought, of course, how different can Thailand be? Pretty different. While I already found Malaysia chaotic in terms of traffic and infrastructure, Thailand was once again a completely different number. It started at the border. There are many inhabitants in southern Thailand who have their roots in Malaysia. That's why there's a lot going on at the border crossing point. Many families want to visit each other and for Malaysians, Thailand is a holiday destination, which is not as expensive as Singapore and therefore often visited. Since in the south of Thailand many speak Bahasa Malayu, the national language of Malaysia, a Malaysian does not need to feel too foreign. Malaysians will find it easier to cross the border. To my knowledge, only the Malaysian identity card is required for the border crossing and no travel passport is required.
What I noticed was that there were few tourists from Europe, Australia or the USA. And the few I met at the border were on a visa run. A few days in Thailand and back to Malaysia. Behind the border of Thailand the driving style of the bus driver was a lot more aggressive. I got a little sweaty. Signs with the maximum speed are completely ignored.
Das erste was mir aufgefallen ist nach der Ankunft, sind die Stromleitungen, die vermutlich so installiert wurden, wie es gerade am besten passte und benötigt wurde. Kreuz und quer ging es von Haus zu Haus. Spannend! An sich war Hat Yai erst einmal recht ruhig. Jedenfalls dort wo der Fahrer uns raus gelassen hat. Auf den Straßen waren die Märkte scheinbar 24 Stunden lang auf. Es gab wenig verkehr.
The first thing that struck me after my arrival were the power lines, which were probably installed as they fit and were needed best. From house to house it went back and forth. Exciting! In itself, Hat Yai was quite calm. At least where the driver let us out. On the streets, the markets seemed to be open for 24 hours. There was only little traffic.
On the first day we first looked for a hotel and then explored the surroundings. During the day, the markets mainly offer food and at night it is clothing, shoes and souvenirs.

Am zweiten Tag haben wir einen Tuk-Tuk Fahrer gefunden, der uns für einen ausgehandelten Preis herum gefahren hat. Ohne Ortskenntnisse war das die einfachste Möglichkeit etwas entdecken zu können oder zumindest die schnellste um die interessantesten Orte der Stadt abzuabklappern.
On the second day we found a Tuk-Tuk driver who drove us around for a negotiated price. Without local knowledge it was the easiest way to discover something or at least the fastest way to explore the most interesting places of the city.
Mostly I visited the temples of the city. Colourful and lively. There were temples that are more likely to be related to the Chinese population and temples that come close to a monastery. The monks lived and worked there.
Wie ich es aus Malaysia bereits kannte, haben viele der Tempel einen Turm. Leider weiß ich immer noch nicht was dessen Funktion ist.
As I already knew from Malaysia, many of the temples have a tower. Unfortunately, I still don't know what its function is.
The dragons cannot be missing. Each dragon has its own color and therefore certainly its own meaning.
In the background you can see the first of the numerous Buddha statues. Here in Thailand most of the statues are very large and can be seen from far.

Die Räumlichkeiten, in denen gebetet wird, sind meistens in hellen Farben gestaltet. Es ist übrigens sehr erstaunlich wie vielfältig die Statuen sein können in ihrem aussehen.
The rooms in which people pray are usually decorated in light colours. It is by the way very amazing how varied the statues can be in their look.
Ob es bei der Staue so gewollt war, dass es so scheint, als ob diese aus dem Gebüsch kommt? Wenn ja dann war die Idee genial!
Was the statue so intended that it seems to come out of the bushes? If so, then the idea was ingenious!
Und zum Schluss gibt noch mal Drachen!

Über Hat Yai erstelle ich eine neue Fotoreihe. Es kommt mehr. Wenn ihr mehr sehen wollt, gebt mir etwas Zeit bis zu dem nächsten Post und schaut erneut bei mir vorbei.

Erwähnen möchte ich, dass in Hat Yai ~157.359 Menschen leben. Wie ich beschrieben habe, schien es recht ruhig zu sein, in dem Gebiet der Stadt in dem ich anfangs unterwegs war. Die fahrt mit dem Tuk-Tuk zeigte mir die etwas hektischere Seite der Stadt. Das kannte ich selbst aus Malaysia bisher nicht. In den Tempeln stört es scheinbar niemanden, wenn ihr herum lauft. Dennoch wollte ich ein wenig den Respekt vor dem Ort und den Menschen wahren und daher nicht überall hineinschauen. Bis dann!

I would like to mention that in Hat Yai ~157.359 people live there. As I described, it seemed quite calm in the area of the city where I was at the beginning. The ride on the Tuk-Tuk showed me the more hectic side of town. I didn't even know that from Malaysia. It doesn't seem to bother anyone in the temples when you walk around. Nevertheless, I wanted to maintain a little respect for the place and the people and therefore I did not want to look everywhere. See ya!
