A blessed day to all of you my fellow Minnows and to our big brother Dolphins. I send greetings as well to all Steemian Whales who never get tired of helping our community to succeed for more and to the best they can.
Introduction
Psalm 23 is written by King David and this chapter is considered by many Christian and God fearing people as one of the best-loved, most claimed, most memorized verse in the book of Psalm. David portrayed the kind of intimate relationship the Lord has for him. For David, God is a good Shepherd who always wants to take good care of His sheep. Every word in Psalm 23 is indeed a source of strength, comfort, provision and assurance that we have a Sovereign God—able to provide, great provider and sustainer of all our needs.
In our devotional text today, I see undeniable characteristics of our God as a Good Shepherd.
In verses 1-6, David says:
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."
David experienced God’s sustaining provision over his life. God as his Good Shepherd, he never runs out of good things for his daily life, because the Lord is meeting every single need He has. For David, God is a Good Shepherd—He provides, He leads, He protects and the one who is guiding his life even in the darkest alley of uncertainties.
Application:
God can always be a Good Shepherd not only to David but also to us who longs for His cares. He is not only a Shepherd who can provide our daily bread; God as well is the Shepherd of our souls. He leads us in a peaceful and quite life and help us to do the right thing that pleases Him. He protects and guides us in all of our life’s troubles. Today, why don’t you try to ask Jesus to be your Shepherd. He said in
John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”
He is Jesus our Good Shepherd; He became willing to die for us, to give us new life by forgiving all of our sins. Try Jesus today and surely you will not regret it for the rest of your life.
Prayer:
Dear God, you know everything in us. As we go on in this life, we ask you to kindly guide us, protect and bless us. Thank you for your daily provision. Today help us to become a blessing to others. This I pray in the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
